Longer sessions can be arranged if the client feels it necessary, and the counselor agrees that it is therapeutically appropriate. By taking advantage of seeing a Professional Counselor, confidentiality and personalized individual and family care are guaranteed. Attending therapy in the church environment allows members the comfort in knowing that Christian values are highly admired as well as utilized in the therapeutic relationship between counselor and client.
Cheryl Duke is a graduate of Texas State University San Marcos with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders and a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling, specializing in couples and families. She is currently practicing with Central Texas Professional Counseling in New Braunfels.
Cheryl’s theory in counseling stems from a systemic theoretical aspect, in which she has seen a high rate of success in utilizing. This theory comes from the basis of families, relationships, the interactions between individuals, and how conflicts are resolved between family members. Exploring family of origin issues and past experiences, as well as their present state is also very important. This gives a counselor better understanding of clients’ life, trials, and accomplishments that mold us into who we are today.

And most importantly, along with a theoretical outline of beliefs, Cheryl also appreciates that each client, couple, or family is unique and, as a therapist, is willing to follow their lead as to what will work for them and make them comfortable.
"Coming from a Baptist background, I believe that a therapeutic relationship, surrounded by Christian values, is the most important aspect of the counseling process and will flourish in a secure, inviting atmosphere. That is what the church hopes to offer our members. My goal is to help facilitate a constructive change in clients’ relationships, lives, and outlook on life in a non-judgmental environment."
