THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD COMMUNICATION

26 July 2006

Over the years I have learned that one of the most important things in an organization is good communication. I have also learned that it is one of the most difficult things to accomplish and keep going. One of my responsibilities as a ministry staff member at First Baptist Church is to do the best job I possibly can to insure that we have a good communication system in place. Below are some of the ways we try to do this at FBC.

  • The Weekly Messenger
  • The Sunday Bulletin
  • The Monthly Youth Parent Newsletter
  • The Saints Alive Newsletter
  • The Telephone Prayer Chain
  • Power Point Announcements prior to Sunday Worship
  • Sunday School Leadership Bulletin
  • FBC News E-mail
  • The First Baptist Church Internet Web Site
On our web site I am making several changes to improve the way we communicate. I realize that this will only be effective for those who use the web site, but as we move further and further into the twenty first century the Internet is becoming more and more important to our way of life.

This past Friday I went to update the Home Page of our web site and it wouldn't let me put anything on it because it was too full. We already have three domains we are using but it looks like we may need to get more. Corey Bearden is developing a new web site which will be just for the student ministry. The other night at our Missions Committee meeting we discussed the idea of having a separate web site just for our missions ministry. All of these would be accessed through our home page but could also be linked independently.

Here are some of the changes I am making to our web site:

  • The daily schedule of activities for the current day
  • A Daily Devotional link to Oswald Chamber's "My Utmost for His Highest"
  • A link to the FBC News on our web site
  • A link to a web page describing future events that will be happening at First Baptist Church and our community.
If you do not have a preference for your home page when you start the Internet on your computer you may want to consider making our web site your home page so that when you turn on your computer it automatically brings up our web site. It's very simple. If you are using Internet Explorer click on "tools" at the top of your screen and select "internet options". Under "general" where it says "Home page" type in our web address:
www.sanmarcosfbc.org
That will make our web site your home page when you turn on Internet Explorer. I will continue to send out the FBC News email but it will now be a link to the FBC News page of our web site.
