In 2000, Texas State University sought public bids on a piece of property
they owned south of town. It was the first time in the University's history
that land was sold outright.

First Baptist Church San Marcos was successful in buying 117 acres at
the corner of McCarty Lane and Hunter Road. The land was purchased on
faith, the funds being provided through a loan. A number of families in the
church pledged to give additional funds on a monthly basis until the note
was paid off. The subsequent sale of 40 acres to the Master's School and
1 acre to the State for Hunter Road expansion, combined with the sale of
several houses owned by the church, enabled us to meet our obligation
quickly. We now own approximately 76 acres, debt free.

The first step in the building design project was to do a masterplan of the
property.
Jackson Galloway Architects of Austin, the Phase 1 designers, recommended that
the
complex of buildings be placed on the second hill. When completed the church
will
have a view of San Marcos to the north and will be visible to residents for
miles
around.

As the plan above shows, the first phase of the church facility is a
multi-purpose
building with space for worship and education.
